For more than 6 decades, Bobby Lee Cook has been one of the most successful and influential defense attorneys in the country. He has tried thousands of cases, including more than 300 murder trials. His clients have ranged from bootleggers and moonshiners, to white collared elites including members of the Rockefeller and Carnegie families. Regarded as one of the South’s best-known defense attorneys, it is widely believed that Andy Griffith’s character in the television series “Matlock” was based on the professional life of Bobby Lee Cook. In addition to criminal proceedings, Cook also took a stand by representing labor unions at a time when many in the South viewed pro-labor organizations as “Communist sympathizers.”

“I think a lawyer’s word and
his integrity are essential to a successful law practice.”
