Andy Birchfield
2025 Inductee
Beasley Allen Law Firm

In the representation of ordinary people and their families who have had their lives torn apart by reckless and negligent corporations, attorney Andy Birchfield is their champion. In major courtroom battles asserting the rights of victims of mass torts and product liability, including Vioxx, Xarelto, social media, and talc, Birchfield has emerged as one of the most significant trial attorneys of the 21st Century.

Recognized for his leadership in mass torts and product liability litigation, he is head of the Mass Torts Section at Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., where he has secured significant settlements and verdicts for clients nationwide.

Raised in Pell City, Alabama, Birchfield graduated cum laude from Samford University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and magna cum laude from Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in 1992, where he was recognized as the Most Outstanding First-Year Law Student in 1989.

Birchfield joined Beasley Allen in 1996, focusing on consumer fraud and commercial litigation. By 2000, he helped establish the firm’s Mass Torts Section, which he continues to lead, gaining national recognition in pharmaceutical litigation.

Birchfield co-led the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee for the federal Vioxx Multidistrict Litigation in 2005 and served as lead or co-lead counsel in five Vioxx trials, including a landmark $51 million verdict against Merck. He is currently leading the fight against Johnson & Johnson’s attempts to avoid responsibility for its talcum powder products. Birchfield led opposition to two prior attempts to use the Texas Two-Step bankruptcy maneuver, both rejected by the courts. The fight for fair compensation continues as J&J now pursues a third bankruptcy attempt. Birchfield has been involved in cases with settlements and verdicts exceeding $7.5 billion.

Birchfield has been selected to the Alabama Super Lawyers list since 2009 and recognized by Best Lawyers in America since 2007. In 2010, he was named one of Beasley Allen’s Litigators of the Decade.

A regular speaker at national, regional, and state seminars, Birchfield has been quoted in publications like the Wall Street Journal, Lawyers Weekly USA, Financial Times, USA Today, and the New York Times. He has appeared on Sixty Minutes, CNBC, NPR, CNN, and MSNBC.

Birchfield is a member of the American Association for Justice, Montgomery Trial Lawyers Association, and Alabama State Bar, where he has served on various committees. He has also held leadership roles, including president of the Montgomery County Young Lawyers and Alabama Young Lawyers.

Beyond his legal practice, Birchfield is committed to his community. In 2010, he and his wife founded Children’s Hope, an orphan ministry in Jacmel, Haiti. They have five children.
