J.B. Spence was considered one of the preeminent trial lawyers in the state of Florida, and was a protégé of legendary attorney Perry Nichols. Less than a year after founding his own firm in 1967, he won his first verdict in excess of $1 million. He would go on to win more than 100 jury verdicts in excess of $1 million. His colleagues described Spence as a “trailblazer” who was the dominant personal injury lawyer during his time. He also taught at the University of Miami as an Adjunct Professor of Law, served as President of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers and was the 2001 recipient of the prestigious Al Cone award. He authored two books, including the autobiography “The Life of a Trial Lawyer.”
