Thomas R. Kline is a founding partner of Kline & Specter, P.C., and is widely regarded as one of America’s most accomplished and influential trial lawyers. Over a career spanning five decades, his landmark cases have shaped the law, driven institutional reform, and secured justice for countless clients.
Mr. Kline has been ranked the top attorney among Pennsylvania’s 50,000 active lawyers by Super Lawyers every year since its inception in 2004. He has also been recognized by Forbes as one of the top 100 lawyers in the United States and served as President of the Inner Circle of Advocates, an invitation-only organization limited to the nation’s top plaintiff trial lawyers.
Known for his extraordinary courtroom success, Mr. Kline has achieved seven-, eight-, nine-, and ten-figure jury verdicts in each of five decades, including landmark verdicts of $8 billion and $2.25 billion in cases involving defective pharmaceuticals and dangerous pesticides.
His leadership in nationally significant matters—including the Penn State/Sandusky scandal, the Timothy Piazza fraternity hazing tragedy, the Vioxx litigation, and the Amtrak 188 derailment litigation—has earned widespread recognition. In the Amtrak MDL, he served as Chair of the Plaintiffs’ Management Committee, helping secure a $265 million global settlement.
A graduate of Albright College, Lehigh University, and Duquesne University School of Law, Mr. Kline clerked for Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Thomas W. Pomeroy. His impact on legal education is reflected in the naming of both the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University and the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University.
